Flat Power

Image
Flat Power is an extension cord that allows anyone to access power anywhere in a room without daisy-chaining powerstrips, which is cumbersome, against regulations and dangerous.  The flat extension cord consists of ultra-flat strips of flexible polycarbonate of different lengths with outlets that you can connect between them.  The modular strips come in different shapes and sizes: long straight ones, turns, upward turns, and outlet boxes.  It uses three clips to connect each of the internal copper electrodes. The cord was designed specifically for the flexible workspace in NuVu, where tables are constantly being moved and outlets are needed under each table to create a safe power grid. Our last inspiration were these modular power strips. We felt that all of these things should all be combined to create a flat modular power strip that is also safe. This is where the modular part comes in.

Musical Interventions Presentation

Musical Interventions The musical slide, By Charlie Nadeau and Nico Love For the past three weeks at NuVu, I have been working with my partner Nico, on designing elements of a musical playground. We have been working in conjunction with two other students from Reyhanli, Turkey, formerly from Syria. We were working on designing a playspace that will be built in Reyhanli, a few blocks away from where they go to school at The Karam House . We designed the Musical Slide. One of our main inspirations at the start of our project is this sort of rail slide that we thought would be interesting to improve. We also wanted to integrate a scoring system, similar to the “Test Your Strength” hammer game. We put both of these ideas into one. First, we made a chair that the user could sit in, instead of having to lie on both sides. We next built a box around it, also has a scoring system that when you went higher it made a higher pitched sound, all in a U shaped

Neighborhood Marvels Presentation

Eye of Avik My most recent studio is Neighborhood Marvels, we talked to many people who are heroes to their neighborhood. We made a product for them that highlighted their qualities, with about 10% magic, or we did not have enough time to finish everything. This is Dr. Avik Chatterjee, he is the client that my partner and I chose. He works for the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. He has two main problems in his work, firstly, he treats the same people for weeks, or months, and then one day, without warning, they just disappear. His second problem is the people in the Congress making bad policies against his clients. We wanted to combine both ideas, Hypnosis, and finding. For the first prototype, we made hypnosis goggles that are put over the victim’s head to hypnotize them. They use flashing lights, which is a type of hypnosis. This is our second prototype which is a compass which points in the direction of whoever he is tryi
